Synopsis:
At 2:00 a.m. today, Tropical Depression "DANTE" 80 kms East Southeast of Legazpi City (13.0 °N, 124.5 °E) with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph. It is forecast to remain almost stationary. Low Pressure Area (LPA) downgraded from tropical depression was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 220 kms Northwest of Puerto Princesa (11.7 °N, 117.7 °E).

Forecast:
Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Burias island and Southern Quezon will experience rains and gusty winds which may trigger flashfloods and landslides and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. The rest of Southern Luzon, Western Visayas and Western Mindanao will have occasional rains. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northeast will prevail over the rest of Luzon and the coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the Southwest with slight to moderate seas.

  • Tropical Depression DANTE (94W) moving erratically, now off the Bay of Sorsogon.

    *Residents and visitors along the Bicol Peninsula, Northern Samar and Southern Quezon should closely monitor the progress of DANTE.


  • + Forecast Outlook: DANTE is expected to remain quasi-stationary w/ a slight erratic drift for the next 12 to 24 hours and shall track North, NW or NE as the High Pressure Ridge to its north weakens.

    + Effects: DANTE's thick over-all circulation continues to improve bringing light to moderate to sometimes heavy rains with passing squalls across the Bicol Region, Southern Quezon and Northern Samar...becoming more frequent over Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes and Albay. 1-day rainfall accumulations of 100 up to 200 mm is possible along its rain bands. The T2K Weather Station has recorded 24-hr rainfall accumlations of 155.6 mm beginning 12 AM May 1 to 12 AM May 2)...Barometer is at 1007.1 hPa. People living around the slopes of Mayon Volcano in Albay & of Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon - especially along the areas where possible MUDFLOWS (LAHAR) FLOWS (mixture of volcanic mud and water) are located must stay alert as moderate to heavy rains associated by this system are likely to affect the area today. Residents in low-lying areas & steep slopes must remain alert & seek evacuation for possible life-threatening flash floods, mudslides & landslides due to the anticipated heavy rains brought about by this system. Precautionary measures must be initiated if necessary.
