Watch Johnoy Danao at Wharf Galley Rock Cafe
Elias Angeles Street, Naga City on May 7, 2011
The Voice
His voice is the soft patter of rain as you sip a cup of coffee. It’s reminiscent of a cool summer wind when the heat seems unbearable. It’s what you would want to hear playing on the radio as you spend a lazy, quite Sunday afternoon-- alone or with someone you are wildly in love with. This is the voice of Johnoy Danao.
The Artist
The former front man of Bridge, Johnoy has gone solo and has just released his first independent album “Dapithapon” last December 15, 2010. His first single from his album, “Ulan”, has a music video out and is being shown on Philippine Television and is a popular video on youtube. “Ulan” has been given a great amount of airplay in the radio as well, particularly at Jam 88.3, Magic 89.9, and UR 105.9.
Upon releasing his independent album we have sold almost a thousand copies in three weeks. “Dapithapon” has been receiving thousands of responses, including album orders from different provinces and different countries. After a morning guesting on Good Times morning show on Magic89.9, he became Mo Twister’s favorite local artist after the DJ heard his rendition of Coldplay's “Fix You”. They now have a podcast together called Good Time Acoustic every Sunday, 8pm produced by BattleAxe Network . The show now only on it's 3rd episode, has been the most downloaded podcast in the country. He just released a music video of his second single “Ikaw at Ako”, and has become an instant theme song for couples madly in love.
But throughout the various reincarnations of his career as a musician, one thing has remained the same: his signature which is his voice. With many aspiring to be vocalists, none can truly compare with how enthralling Johnoy’s voice could be with its throaty sexiness that seems to conjure pillow talks and whispered conversations even while conveying passion and intensity. This combined with his song writing prowess and his originality and creativity fueled by powerhouse collaborations has produced an album that truly redefines easy-listening.
