Bagasbas Beach, Daet's Charm

Every town or city has a charmer. For me, Bagasbas Beach is Daet's charm. The beach is just a few minutes away from downtown Daet and is readily available for both adrenaline junkies and those who just want to basically relax and unwind. Why is Bagasbas Beach charming?

Surfing. Daet is known as the Surfing Capital of Bicol. While Catanduanes also offers surfing to tourists, Daet is readily accessible by land. The waves of Bagasbas has charmed both local and foreign tourists.

A one hour lesson of surfing is only Php 400.00 inclusive of board rental. What's nice about this activity is that the instructor will never leave you as you do the actual surfing. It is a one on one activity with the first time surfer and the instructor. The waves are good for beginners, it still looks gentle from afar.

Since Bagasbas beach faces the Pacific ocean, the wind is just great for aeorosports. During the last weekend of March 2014, Daet hosted the 2nd International Aerosports Show. Paragliding and hanggliding towing will be yet another activity to be added on my bucket list.

I still have to earn some more confidence before I try this water sport.

Therapeutic. It is not only the surfers who gets to enjoy Bagasbas but also anyone who wants a natural foot massage at no expense. I for one who lives in an inland city crave for sand on my feet. The sound of the rushing waves and the opportunity to watch the sun rise is really a charming way to welcome your day.

Run, Bike, Exercise. The boulevard and the shoreline is full of runners, aerobics enthusiasts and cyclists especially during weekends. There's nothing more rewarding than an exercise the seaside way. Play beach volley with your friends and enjoy the sand.

Also along this boulevard are carinderias, restaurants and resorts like Bagasbas Lighthouse and Catherine's to name a few. Explore the night life along this boulevard with ktv bars and live bands or just a hearty dinner with your friends or family.

View from the watcher's tower which is located along the midway of the shoreline of Bagasbas Beach. Watch out for the signs, there are areas along the beach where you are not allowed to swim.

The sand is from grayish to brown but still feels fine on your feet.

Keep it clean. Volunteers and locals help clean the shoreline and they come in flocks just to brush the beach away from plastics or any litters. Tourists like us should help in maintaining the cleanliness of the beach. Remember, what we negatively do today to nature can be a thousand fold of disaster in the future.

Wander and be wondered. Look around you, free your mind and relax. This wandering talangka (photo below) is actually good in camouflaging itself on the sands of Bagasbas. The photo looks like a splash of sun rays from afar. But if you look at it closer the tiny balls of sand were made by tiny Mr. Crab. Exploring and wandering like a kid is already therapeutic. The charm of beaches will never fail anyone who wants to reconnect with nature.
