A Testament to the 'Little Kitchen Big Taste'

“There is no such thing as free lunch.” Only free sumptuous dinner for four won by my brother at WoodStone Kitchen.

And how was it possible??? Kindly ask Naga City Deck (NCD).

After the Traslacion Procession mass, my siblings, my former professor and her daughter was accompanied by Naga City Deck to WoodStone Kitchen located at Bora Hut Food Temple, Peñafrancia Avenue Basilica Road (CLICK HERE for the latest review last March 2015), Magsaysay Avenue, Naga City. The place was cozy and a little bit rustic, a right place for relaxation and dining, to chat and jam with friends, family and colleagues. Preparing good food really takes a little bit of time and after patiently waiting, foods were served.

Sinigang na Ulo ng Tuna, Buttered Chicken, Pork and Vegetable Medley, Iced Tea and of course hot steamy rice while NCD ordered Sisig and Nachos. …………… What? Waiting for something????

Both my parents cook superb meals and that affected our tastebuds and standards in eating. Well, Chef Ton you made it very clear that WoodStone Kitchen serves one of the best home cooked meals in Naga City I’ve ever tasted.

Sinigang na Ulo ng Tuna makes me giggle with that tangy sour soup, the buttered chicken has that “melts in your mouth” feeling bursting with buttery garlic flavor, you gave justice to the Pork meddling in fresh and crisp vegetables making it a healthy menu and that home brewed Iced Tea was superb that I winked after my lips touched the glass. Pork Sisig was not that oily compared to others, the kick of hot pepper was just right not to make me choke and ask water to drown the spicy taste and the Nachos omgee reminds me of Mexico. That was a night to remember.

Crispy Pinangat? C4 Cake? More about Woodstone Kitchen HERE

Think I’m just bluffing this all? Well why you don’t lead your feet and your stomach to WoodStone Kitchen after you have read this to experience what I have been narrating. Again from my brother, sister and me, a big thanks to Naga City Deck for introducing WoodStone Kitchen and to Chef Ton for preparing that wonderful meal. Next time I’ll try that Seafood Paella. -- by Kookai Sabareza

The Postcard Project in Naga

Have you ever received a postcard? Ahh  postcards! I would automatically link postcards to my younger years back when International Youth Services (IYS) was very popular and yes, I was into "PenPalling" during my elementary years. IYS is a company established in Turku, Finland in 1952 and lasted for 56 years. The company basically maintains a database of young adults aged 10 to 20 years old. Teens who want to have penfriends from other countries are the target customers of IYS. I had many penfriends from many countries and sending and receiving a postcard was a very usual practice back then.

The joy of receiving a postcard or any letter through a snail mail is a complete different experience from receiving a message sent through digital platforms.  In a usual exchange of letters between friends and relatives, every stroke of handwritten message and the waiting time to receive the message makes it more heartfelt.  We are in an era where most of us are preoccupied and fast paced and we now rely heavily on online social networks, online messengers and video calling services like Skype to connect with people. Though we are in the digital age, I find it amusing if not proud that there are still people who are still into sending postcards. But what if you knew people who are the ones making the postcards for a very good cause? Not that's even amazing.

Postcards do not call for urgency, but it does awaken the heart, appreciate more the message and most importantly the sender. So whether if you are here in Naga or just visting, hear this one out. This project will make your visit in Naga more meaningful.

The Postcard Project is a collaboration between thespiralsun.com and Bubble Town Tea House to promote pride of place, creativity and communication.

Pride of Place – The Post Card Project hopes to share postcards of Naga City with friends and family via Philippine Post. There are so many places that we can be proud of, and so many aspects of our culture and heritage that we can share with the rest of the country and the rest of the world.

Creativity – These postcards (and the future postcards) are products of local artists (whether they are professional painters, designers, photographers or graphic artists or beginners giving their creativity some space to grow) here in Bicol.

Communication – The Postcard Project team really appreciates how the internet and social media have made it so easy to keep in touch and share information – but there is just something about a sincere handwritten note and receiving something in the mail too!

So basically Spiral Sun together with Bubble Town is selling postcards to support some Gawad Kalinga projects here in CamSur.  How Does it Work? You can do two things!

1. BUY A POSTCARD!
The Porta Mariae

A Compilation of the artwork of the first Gurit Kamot workshop

You can buy one (1) postcard for PHP20.00
If you order twenty-five (25) postcards, you get a free Bayani Bracelet made at GK Del Rosario.

2. BUY A POSTCARD AND HAVE IT SENT BY THE POSTCARD PROJECT!

Sending it somewhere in the Philippines? PHP60.00/postcard

Sending it abroad? PHP75.00/postcard

1.) Buy a postcard and have it stamped by your barista at Bubble Town Tea House. She will have you fill up a form too (give your email address and contact number so that we can send you a photo of your postcard, stamped and ready to be mailed at the post office)
2.) Fill up your postcard and drop it off in the mailbox at the store.

Note: Once a week, the postcards will be picked up and brought to the local post office. It takes approximately two weeks for mail to get to the destination.

BY PARTICIPATING IN THE POSTCARD PROJECT, YOU’RE SUPPORTING GURIT KAMOT! CLICK HERE to know more about Gurit Kamot.

Why not surprise your friends and relatives with this Postcard Project? Buy your postcards at Bubble Town Avenue Square and Panganiban Branch.

SM Youth Visits Naga this Peñafrancia Festival 2014

All roads lead to Naga City, Camarines Sur this September. The SM Youth crew is visiting one of the biggest and most popular festivals in the Philippines, our very own Peñafrancia Festival.

CLICK HERE for the Peñafrancia Festival 2014 Schedule of Events

SM Youth Loves A-Fash!

SM Youth caters to the fashion and culture of the young generation today. They carry the lifestyle brands Tee Culture, Markus, Tank, Character Tees, Tribal, Jag Thug, Lee Pipes, Ego Jeans, Fubu, Fresh Gear, Dickies Tykes, Vans, Bum, BNY, Zoo York and many more. All available at the the SM Store.

SM Youth Twitter and Instagram: @SM_Youth

Together with SM Youth is Naga's very own fashion bloggers group called A-Fash. Yes, Naga is teeming with creative and young fashionistas who are unique in their own little ways and it's high time for them to shine bright in Naga and Bicol's fashion industry. I'm proud and lucky to have met the person who pioneered this awesome group in the name of Jamie Lou Borile of www.spotlightonjamie.com. This young girl does not only speak her mind and is more than the person who knows how to mix and match apparels and accessories but rather possesses the right attitude cultivating her passion. Very adorable and sophisticated, Jamie was able to live up to her passion and pioneering a group of people with the same passion as hers is recognizing others' talents and creativity. I'm sure all the other members of A-Fash are worth the recognition too. The "A" in A-Fash may have started in the Ateneo but they have created a Fash-A "Fashion Aura" in Naga reinventing the youth's culture in a fashionable way.

A-Fash is a fashion group/community in Ateneo de Naga University that exists in the goal of uniting the “fashionistas” in the university. Founded on June 10, 2012. Its objective is to serve as a support group of fashionistas in the university; help its members with their fashion dilemmas; and make them improve, go outside their comfort zones and grow as a fashionista.  It also encourages its members into fashion blogging and/or being active on their online fashion platforms. It aims to make other people realize that every day is an opportunity to dress-up and look good. Inspire people. That’s our vision. To be a start of a more fashionable world. Aside from enjoying being a fashionista, A-Fash also aims to be available commercially (i.e. collaborating with brands, events, etc. with commission or plain exposure). A-Fash stands for Ateneo Fashionistas. Not really a school organization, just a community of people sharing the same passion for fashion.

So What are you waiting for? A really cool SM Youth Bus will be at the SM City Naga to wait for you from September 12 until September 21. On September 19 from 4PM onwards, hang out with A-Fash and be part of their fashion consultation featuring the latest shirts from Tee Culture. Mark you calenders!

Agora Magazine

The PAPER ISSUE is here!!!
visit http://issuu.com/bikolagoramag/docs/agora2014/0 (best viewed with a desktop)

An online magazine is coursed to set sail in the world wide web to cover Bicol Art x Fashion. Bicolanos never run out of talents to showcase to the whole country and to the whole world. Since the online social media is now one of our major sources of information, a magazine was diligently created by a new generation of Bicolano artists.
Agora, a Greek word in origin "ageirein" meaning to gather is the name of the magazine that we will be able to experience online to further strengthen our love for art and Bicolano culture. This 'gathering' will not only captivate a worldwide audience but will surely entice the eyes of aspiring Bicolano artists.

Agora Magazine is a non-profit online magazine dedicated to become a platform for up-and-coming Bikolano artists in the fields of Photography, Fashion, Beauty, Music, Literature, Film, Visual Arts such as Painting and Illustration, Theatre, Industrial and Interior Design and other fields of creativity.
Founded in the first quarter of 2014, Agora Magazine was formed with the desire to showcase the best of Bikol and cultivate a sense of panache and a forward-thinking taste among homegrown talents with a local and global audience. It’s a hip market place for what’s new and who’s who in the local scene, what talent is there to discover, what ideas to unearth. The magazine is a public place, a place to be seen in. ‘Agora,’ after all, is Greek for ‘public place.’

The September issue is a preview of things and shapes to comeand will be called ‘The Paper Issue.’ Harking back to its primordial roots, the online magazine looks into the paper as a weapon, as a tool, as a means for expressing creativity, and as the translated ‘papel’, we look into the roles we play in cultivating Bikol Art into a global, social community of acquired tastes. Photographers, Writers, Makeup Artists, Fashion Stylists, Interior Designers, Graphic Designers, and Illustrators give us their takes on this theme for the maiden issue.
Agora Magazine is a tri-monthly magazine and accepts contributions in the form of Feature Articles, Fashion and Beauty Editorials, Photo Journals, Illustrations and Art Installations, Essays and Critiques and themes vary at every issue. For inquiries and comments, you can email Agora Magazine at agoramagazinebikol@gmail.com.
